About John Twynam
Although my education and work experience has been primarily in math and computer programming and similar subjects, my passions lie elsewhere. Don't get me wrong - if there's a particular problem I'm trying to program a solution to or some menial task that I'm trying to automate, my head gets really into it trying to figure it out, but that's just what I do to pay the bills. I'm sure everyone (or at least most people) has a 'standard' list of things that they like: hanging out with friends and family, watching movies, etc. Of course, I like those things too, but my main passion in recent years has been travel and exploration. I do enjoy a leisurely trip down south in the winter to escape the Canadian cold, but I also really enjoy much 'busier' trips. My main rule for these busier trips is that I like to go somewhere I've never been before, but of course these can be limited by available vacation time as well as available funds. And these days, also limited by COVID-19 restrictions, so I've found myself doing a lot of exploration in my own province. I enjoy exploring things like abandoned sites (although I'm a bit hesitant because of the potential trespassing fine), provincial parks and nature preserves, waterfalls, ghost towns, and other small towns. Also lately, I've found myself pausing more to admire the beauty of nature, such as a sunset or a nice vibrant flower.
Some people buy little souvenirs when they go traveling - postcards, keychains, shot glasses, etc. If that's what you're into, that's great, but to me, photos of the places I've been and people I was with are much more memorable, which is what first sparked my interest in photography. I take a lot of pictures, and just like any other hobby, you get better with practice. If you see something here that catches your eye, drop me a comment.
